If you want to improve the signal of a single digital TV antenna, moving it closer to a window or higher up on a wall might do the trick. If you improve reception by standing near or touching the radio or antenna, your system is telling you it needs a better antenna.
Distribution amplifiers are typically designed to be used indoors. Ultimately, an amplifier isn't going to help you receive a signal that isn't already reaching your antenna.
However, it can boost the signal to make it through a long cable run or overcome a splitter to supply more than one TV with reception. The obvious alternative to watching not trough a aerial is to watch it through a satellite dish instead.
To watch satellite TV you will need a satellite dish and a satellite receiver, this is usually a satellite set top box but many TV's have in built satellite tuners. The cable between the antenna and the TV set also picks up mostly noise and a bit of signal. The TV set has an amplifier that will amplify whatever mixture of signal and noise that it gets.
It also has filters to separate the signal from the noise. As some one who can get cable and does not have the proper line of sight for satillite and loves watching TV, I can speak from experance.
